Preparation for Higher Education and Employment

HMC independent schools prepare young people for successful progress to demanding courses at Britain’s best universities. One in five of all those attending the UK's top ten universities come from HMC's 275 member schools¹

HMC independent schools provide exceptional advice to students regarding post-18 opportunities, with 92% of sixth-form leavers continuing to higher education, well over double the national average.

hmc-icon_mortarboard_pupilIndependent schools have the highest success rate out of all school types in the proportion of applications that are accepted at the University of Oxford². Furthermore, 44% of the 2011/12 Oxbridge undergraduate intake was from independent schools.

Our students are well prepared for university, work and life by their education in our schools. The likelihood of our students succeeding at University is high with 82% of independently educated students gaining a first or upper-second class degree and over two-thirds going on to gain a graduate job and skilled career³. Our students also go on to earn, on average, 17% (£4,500 more) more, three years after graduation°.
