About Mike Buchanan

Mike Buchanan has been Headmaster of Ashford School in Kent since 2005 where he has overseen its transformation from a small girls' school to an all-age, coeducational day/boarding school of over 1,000. He has experience in secondary education, all-through schools and boarding and has held a variety of leadership posts at the Royal Grammar School, Guildford and Highgate School, London. He helped to establish two Academies in London and a Free School in Kent. He is a Governor of several HMC schools, a trustee of a children’s charity, a Reporting Inspector, a National Leader of Education, a former Chair of the HMC South East Division and plays at being a farmer. As a proud Australian, he is a recent supporter of netball, women's cricket and is looking forward to the next men's Ashes series (or the one after that or the one after that). He is Chair of HMC for 2016-17.
