Eton College to admit pupils irrespective of family income

The Telegraph, 05/02/2014: Private schools have a “moral imperative” to open their doors to poor pupils, according to the headmaster of Eton College. All independent schools should set targets designed to increase the number of free and subsidised places given to children whose families struggle to pay fees, said Tony Little.

Writing in the latest edition of the New Statesman, he said Eton, which has educated 19 prime ministers, including David Cameron, eventually wanted to create a “needs blind” admissions system, with bright pupils gaining places irrespective of parental income.
