HMC Chairman to become General Secretary of AGBIS from 1st September 2016

The Board of the Association of Governing Bodies of Independent Schools (AGBIS) has announced today that its new General Secretary from 1 September 2016 is to be Richard Harman, Headmaster of Uppingham School and current Chairman of HMC.

HMC is delighted that Richard will be taking his very extensive experience of headship and independent sector leadership – both at HMC and at the Boarding Schools’ Association – to this pivotal position supporting school governing bodies.

Richard said:

“It is entirely appropriate that the reciprocal roles of AGBIS and independent school heads associations should continue to strengthen and complement each other. In an increasingly complex world it is more important than ever that schools are excellent both in leadership and governance”.

“Over the next 18 months I intend to remain as fully committed as now to leading both Uppingham as its Head and HMC as its Chairman (2014/15) and Vice Chairman (2015/16).  However, I am also looking forward very much to staying close to the heart of what independent schools do and, at AGBIS, to playing a further part in helping them to continue to flourish and excel”.
