HMC statement re Sunday Times article on IGCSEs

Peter Hamilton Chair of HMC's Academic Policy Committee and headmaster of Haberdasher's Aske's Boys' School said:

“We welcome the ever improving results in the independent sector and our schools often partner with state schools to share learning for the good of all pupils. Our success derives from our independence, which allows us to choose the exam syllabuses which best stretch, challenge and above all inspire pupils. We can then focus determinedly upon the quality of teaching and learning in our classrooms and beyond. There is no question of any of our exams being easier; in fact Cambridge University ensures its IGCSEs are of comparable difficulty to equivalent GCSEs”
