Lessons in ‘character’ should be placed on curriculum

Comments by Anthony Seldon (Wellington College) that state and independent schools should place character building at the heart of the curriculum are reported in the Telegraph, 03/12/2013. According to the report, Anthony Seldon said an emphasis on old fashioned values had made pupils at his school “happier and more confident”, improving their academic performance.

The comments come just days after HMC Chairman Tim Hands accused the government for taking the joy out of childhood by over-emphasising exam preparation at the expense of extra-curricular activities and pastoral care.
