Richard Harman letter to the Times re academic rigour

In a letter to the Times, 01/09/14, Richard Harman, Chairman of HMC and Headmster of Uppingham School, highlights the need for excellence in provision in all educational paths, academic, technical and vocational.

Sir,

Academic rigour is undoubtedly a good thing (Traditional subjects are “key to success”, 1 September) but I hope that Nicky Morgan’s Conservative party, when thinking about its future plans for education, will also include excellent provision for those pupils who are more engaged by a rigorous technical or vocational path. The UK would undoubtedly benefit. Time to bring back Lord Baker?

Yours faithfully

Richard Harman
