Qualifications
|
Avoiding squeezing out Greek at GCSE
|
| |
Project description
|
- Classics receives 8.3% curriculum time in year 9
- The top half of the year take Greek alongside Latin
in the same time allocation as the Latin-only boys, with
some sets starting Greek from scratch
- Classics take-up at GCSE is healthy in a system where
only four options can be chosen, one of which must be
a Modern Foreign Language.
- By doing Latin and Greek in the time for just GCSE,
i.e. one option block, these pupils achieve two GCSEs
"for the price of one"
- As a result take-up for Greek at A level is not a problem.
