Dedicated first-year (aged 13) boarding house for boys and girls

Project description

Faulkner's is an innovative, purpose-built complex for the exclusive use of the 13+ girls and boys at Bradfield College providing a home-from-home family environment with spacious en-suite bedrooms. The bedrooms open onto a landing, each with easy access to comfortable common rooms and cooking facilities for snacks on the ground floor. A central foyer provides a welcoming space for girls and boys to meet and mix.

Pastoral care of the highest quality is provided through a resident team of Housemaster and Housemistress, Assistant Housemaster and resident girls' tutor and matrons. Other members of the teaching staff regularly come into Faulkner's as tutors.

Bradfield College provides accommodation specifically for its new entry; thus girls and boys benefit by getting to know all of their year and not just those in their own house.

During the course of the first year the boys and girls make links with their senior houses that they have chosen prior to their arrival at Bradfield thus ensuring an easy transition into Year 10.

The Year 9 experience at Bradfield is based on all the successes which the boys and girls in Years 7 and 8 have achieved at Prep School. Faulkner's is like a school within the larger college. For example, the boys and girls eat together with the staff in their own dining hall.

Benefits

Staff have the opportunity to focus on one age group throughout the year, enabling them to monitor pupils' progress more closely and deal successfully with any problems.

Traditions, expectations and routines of the College can be communicated to the pupils in a uniform and reliable manner when they are all together. These conditions enable each pupil to thrive both academically and socially within the whole of their peer group.
