Careers guidance should inspire and enable students to
take individual responsibility for finding their own unique
talents, passions and roles in life, and for continuously
improving their impact on society and personal fulfilment.
Quality awards, made through Connexions companies, help
to bring this about, having an important impact on pupil
achievement and personal development. Leicester Grammar
School has worked with Connexions in the East Midlands to
develop a modular version of Career Mark for the independent
sector nationally, through ISCO. Career Mark covers a school's
careers education, guidance and information as well as the
management of CEG. It involves an on-site visit by an assessor
to check that the provision is embedded within the institution.
Seven HMC schools (Abingdon, Charterhouse, Leicester GS,
Royal Russell, Sevenoaks, Wellingborough, Yarm) are already
involved.

The benefits to students are in their own view of CEG and
in improvements to their capacity to make informed and effective
decisions about their lives. For the school, the Career
Mark process helps to engender change, drawing together
policies and practices, and developing partnerships within
and outside the institution.
