Curriculum development

Avoiding squeezing out Greek at GCSE

Project description

  • Classics receives 8.3% curriculum time in year 9
  • The top half of the year take Greek alongside Latin in the same time allocation as the Latin-only boys, with some sets starting Greek from scratch
  • Classics take-up at GCSE is healthy in a system where only four options can be chosen, one of which must be a Modern Foreign Language.
  • By doing Latin and Greek in the time for just GCSE, i.e. one option block, these pupils achieve two GCSEs "for the price of one"
  • As a result take-up for Greek at A level is not a problem.

Benefits
