Collaboration between HMC schools, an e-learning company
and an awarding body (Institute of Administrative Management)
has produced an online course which is a whole school resource
and which provides:
- Interactive tutorials in ICT,
- A modern e-assessment tool, and
- A marking and reporting engine which enables the consistent
assessment of ICT skills for the first time.
Londonlearning was invited by Dulwich College to
help design an online ICT course which would address the
deficiencies of qualifications like the ECDL and CLAIT in
ensuring the application of ICT skills across the curriculum.
Pupils can learn ICT skills at their own pace, comparing
the personalised feedback they receive from each tutorial
and helping - and competing with - each other in the learning
process. Learners not only acquire specific ICT skills but
also go on to identify the skills they have used elsewhere
in the curriculum. The interactive mini-tutorials can be
used by all subject teachers, either on whiteboards or using
the school intranet.
Because the marking engine assesses the learner's actual
competence in the application of ICT skills, the feedback
it provides is consistent to all learners. Results from
external tests are issued to schools, with formative assessment
comments, within 36 hours.
The programme, originally designed for independent schools,
is now being used by the Institute of Administrative Management
and the Royal Marines, as well as by private schools in
China.
