ICT

ICT delivery, including ECDL, without weekly timetable allocation

Project description

All students in NC Years 7 - 9 receive ICT training in chunks of four 35 minute periods on a rotation out of their normal timetable, and take the 7 ECDL online exam modules at appropriate stages over the three years. This occurs roughly every 4 weeks for years 7 and 8, and less frequently for year 9.

The cost of online examining and marking is significant, but parents seem happy to have the cost added to the fees, seeing it as a very good opportunity to gain a valuable business standard qualification, without it impinging on GCSE options.

The timing of the sessions is published in the diary to alert staff who usually teach the groups and, although this causes complications to the few subjects that set in Years 8 and 9, we try to minimise the disruption by careful planning.

Benefits

The pass rate is respectable but, as it is a serious qualification, a significant number attend re-sit sessions in order to make up for modules failed at first attempt.
