Whole School Reporting using MS Excel

There are (of course) many off the shelf and customised report writing systems available to schools. Some are very expensive!

At Exeter school we have moved to electronic reporting using MS Excel (and MS Access for printing) which cost nothing!

Benefits

  • No additional software needed. (i.e. Free)
  • Relatively easy to set up and very flexible. (Can be used for collecting exam grades / UCAS reference comments or end of term reports)
  • It has proved very popular with staff -for the ease of use, the fact that it can be done on any PC with Excel, the ability to correct spelling and fact that it provides a very readily accessible archive of report
  • The data (e.g. effort grades) can then be readily processed with an 'average effort grade' and a rank order list by year group / form or house easily produced.
