Managing pupil performance

Project description

Introduction of an information management and control system for work ethic. The aim of the project was to replace all systems (including sanctions, monitoring systems, grading and reports) with one integrated system that monitored work ethic of all pupils.

The change involved all pupils and all staff (Academic and Pastoral) and, in addition to changes in procedure, involved a change in culture. The school has a house-based structure - we did not have a consistent approach to dealing with work ethic related issues. We did not have control of work ethic - sanctions were 'hidden'.

The school takes a broad range of ability and we wanted to improve academic results (our intake has remained the same throughout this process).

Benefits

  • 50% fall in sanctions
  • Improved effort grades
  • More accurate achievement grades
  • Significant improvement in results and value-added
  • Better pupil - tutor relationships
  • Better work ethic
  • Focus for staff development
