The school presents the co-curricular activities of the
science department at an annual Science Fair. When
it first started, in 1999, it was aimed at an internal audience.
Then Year 5 and 6 pupils from local primary schools were
invited. Now more than 300 visit us and about 100 of our
own pupils share their enthusiasm for science in the school
hall.
Our Year 12 and 13 pupils now provide four different roadshows
which go into local primary schools, generating interest
that has led to requests for ideas for science clubs which
can be administered easily. As a result, the school produced
the science in a box initiative which includes resources
and full instructions for 10 activities and details of an
award scheme for club members, all conveniently packaged
in a large box. The local authority took over the initiative
when it grew beyond the school's resources.
This year (2005-06) pupils and staff have been involved
in running twilight courses for local secondary school
pupils, assisting in the local Gifted and Talented provision.
