Qualifications

Terminal A levels

Project description

Radley College is unique amongst independent and maintained schools in that all boys sit AS and A2 exams at the end of Y13. Consequently there has been no anguished debate about the number and timing of retakes - all exams are taken once, at the end of a two year course.

But the other benefits have been marked, too: we have gained 8 weeks of teaching time across the 5 terms; we have retained an exam-free Y12 Summer Term so that boys can enjoy sports, drama and music; our boys have had greater maturity at 18+ and AS levels have benefited; boys see links between all A level units and teachers have been better able to draw themes together for Unit 6's synoptic syllabus.

All boys do 4 A levels thoughout.

Benefits

Pupils have clearly benefited in results, and the school has benefited because we have no disruptive exam leave in Lower Sixth.
