'Read On….'

Project description

Is an initiative from the joint libraries of Sherborne: Sherborne School (HMC), The Gryphon (State), Sherborne School for Girls (GSA), St Antony's Leweston (GSA) and the Public Library

Our core purposes are:

a) To expand the enjoyment of reading among secondary aged children primarily through book groups.
b) Develop citizenship skills by providing opportunities for joint activities and events.
c) Develop teenage reading provision in the Public Library
d) Encourage a life-long enjoyment of reading

Benefits

(to pupils, school, others)

This initiative has broken down barriers between schools and new friendships have been formed. These new friendships and links have been achieved through the love of reading and passionate debate revolving around books.

The groups in all schools have introduced a number of initiatives to encourage non-readers to read e.g. 'See the film now read the book', Historical Ghost Walks with storytelling, Writing Raps, Drop Everything and Read events.
