Independent Schools Council (ISC)

ISC, of which HMC is a founder member, brings eight independent school associations together to represent over 1,200 independent schools. ISC provide Research, Legal, Regulatory and Press services to ISC schools. It provides information for parents about independent schools on its website.

Independent Schools Inspectorate (ISI)

ISI is responsible for inspecting the 1,200 UK independent schools in membership of the Independent Schools Council. Its authority as a body under Statute comes from the Secretary of State for Education.

Girls' Schools Association (GSA) 

The Girls’ Schools Association is the professional association representing the Heads of leading girls’ independent schools in the UK.

Society of Heads (SOH)

The Society of Heads  is an Association of the Heads of just over 100 well-established independent schools.

Independent Association of Prep Schools (IAPS)

The Independent Association of Prep Schools (IAPS) is the professional association for Heads of the leading 600 independent prep schools in the UK and worldwide.

Independent Schools Association (ISA)

The Independent Schools Association (ISA) exists to provide professional support to Headteachers of independent nursery, prep and secondary schools, and sixth form colleges.

The Independent Schools' Bursars Association (ISBA)

The Independent Schools' Bursars Association (ISBA) is a charitable company limited by guarantee whose objects are the advancement of education by the promotion of efficient and effective financial management, administration and ancillary services in independent schools.

The Association of Governing Bodies of Independent Schools (AGBIS)

The Association of Governing Bodies of Independent Schools (AGBIS) supports and advises governing bodies of schools in the independent sector on all aspects of governance.

Council of British Independent Schools (COBIS)

COBIS is a Membership Association of British Schools of quality and is a member of ISC.

Independent Schools Teacher Induction Panel (IStip)

The Independent Schools Teacher Induction Panel (IStip) is designated by the Department for Education as the ‘appropriate body’ for statutory induction of Newly Qualified Teachers in ISC schools.

Independent Schools Examinations Board (ISEB)

The Independent Schools Examinations Board offers examinations for pupils transferring from junior to independent senior school at the ages of 11+ and 13+. The main examination is Common Entrance, established in 1904.
