FAO Heads of Junior / Prep/ Pre-Prep / Early Years HMC JUNIOR HEADS ANNUAL ONE DAY CONFERENCE AT BROMSGROVE SCHOOL ON THURSDAY 12TH NOVEMBER 2009
The theme for this year's conference is ‘Making Good Schools Great'. Dr Simon Letman of IPD will be delivering a keynote talk on this theme, tapping into the work of Jim Collins, Stephen Carey and Benjamin Zander: The three wise men? We have also invited Andrew Grant, Headmaster of St Albans School and Chairman of HMC, to address our gathering. In addition, we hope to have break-out groups on a range of themes of mutual interest for discussion. If there are any topics or issues of particular interest to you that you would like to offer for consideration for discussion, please contact me direct. Bromsgrove will, as in past years, provide an excellent venue and an excellent lunch! The cost of this year's conference will be £155. Cheques (payable to IPD please) can be sent to me at Eltham College or you can book direct through the IPD website. There will again be the opportunity of a pre-conference stop-over at The Labybird Lodge with a meal at Rosada's Restaurant the previous evening. Please book accommodation direct (telephone 01527 889900). We will reserve a number of rooms for the conference. Please mention you are an HMCJ delegate when you book. I do not wish to take up any more of your valuable time, except to express my sincere gratitude to the retiring members of the HMCJ Committee who have given long and excellent service to our Committee affairs. Roger Peel, Secretary of HMC, has been an enthusiastic and loyal supporter of HMCJ affairs. We wish him a very happy and healthy retirement in due course. Geoff Shaw is giving up the reigns at the King's Junior School, Macclesfield to return to teaching Maths at senior level; Sue Pickering is retiring as Head of Bromsgrove Pre-Prep School and Adrian Palmer has stepped down from HMCJ Committee due to other pressing commitments at Wycliffe Prep School. Each has given generously of their time and energies to support HMCJ Committee. They will be missed and we offer them our very best wishes for the future. Adrian Taylor (Berkhamsted College Juniors) and Louise Gray (QEGS, Wakefield) have joined the Committee and we look forward to them making a valuable contribution in the future.
