The English College in Prague
|Head's Name:||Nigel Brown|
The English College in Prague is a unique school in the Czech Republic and quite possibly across Europe. We are not a Czech school, not a British School and not an international School; rather we are a school informed by the traditions of British education but within the Czech system and we have students from across the world - 27 nationalities last year from Europe, Asia, Africa and the Americas.
We hope to bring together the best traditions of both British and Czech education and this is symbolised by our two patrons, former President Václav Havel and HRH Prince Charles, the Prince of Wales. The majority of our teaching staff comes from the English speaking world but we have many Czech staff too and our governors come from all walks of civil society in the UK and Czech Republic. This unique position also means that pupils at the English College graduate with both the prestigious International Baccalaureate Diploma but also the Czech Maturita.
At the English College in Prague we offer a British style education that finishes with the internationally respected and challenging IB Diploma. Our lessons are taught in English and we expect all our students to achieve high levels of fluency by the time they leave.
We do not, however, believe that parents and students should have to choose between their native language and the obvious attractions of achieving fluency in England. That is why at the English College we offer a rigorous Czech programme. We believe our Czech department to be as good as any in Prague staffed by six native speakers with a wide experience in delivering Czech to native and non-native speakers. Most of our Czech students leave us with the bilingual IB Diploma, having achieved equal levels of English and Czech and equipped to choose universities in both countries. We also cater for native speakers of other languages and offer native language lessons in Years 5 and 6 in any language we can source. Regularly tuition in Vietnamese, Chinese and Russian and over the years we have also run courses in Bosnian, Bulgarian, Croatian, Dutch, French, German, Hungarian, Italian, Japanese, Kazakh, Korean, Latvian, Lithuanian, Polish, Portuguese, Serbian, Slovene, Spanish, Swedish and Urdu.
