ISC 2015 Census: HMC Chairman statement

Commeting on the publication of the 2015 ISC Annual Census, Richard Harman, Chairman of HMC and headmaster of Uppingham School said:

"It is notable that even at a time of uncertainty and worry, more families than ever before are choosing independent education. This is especially true in the Sixth Form, with 14% of over 16s who remain in education choosing an ISC school.

This is because the UK's leading independent schools offer excellence and all round education, in which character and values matter as much as high grades.

Not only do 51% of pupils at ISC schools achieve A* and A grades at A-level compared to 26% nationally, they also gain from extra curricular activities and superb pastoral care which fits them for life in the 21st century.

I am particularly pleased that last year a record number of pupils - one third in total - received help with their fees, valued at over £800 million. This support has offered life changing opportunities for many young people."
