Leading headmaster attacks ‘mediocre’ state schools

Chris Ray, vice-chairman of HMC (Headmasters’ and Headmistresses’ Conference) tells the Telegraph, 28/09/13, that decades of resistance to academic selection and an overemphasis on average-ability pupils has left too many schoolchildren feeling “neglected” in the classroom. 

Writing in the Telegraph, he also launches a staunch defence of fee-paying schools, insisting they have been the victim of “persistent misrepresentation” from politicians and teaching unions.
