The Telegraph, 19.04.17 publishes a letter from HMC Chair Mike Buchanan about the Education White Paper following the General Election announcement on 18.04.17.
School leaders are hoping that the Prime Minister’s long-awaited education reforms are not lost in the rumpus of the General Election. The Education White Paper, expected at the beginning of May, is now likely to fall prey to traditional pre-election period of purdah and it will be critical for children’s futures that the Government’s intentions are made clear in the manifesto. Whilst grammars will be the main focus, we in the independent sector are trusting that our carefully-negotiated policy proposals for more free places, help running state schools and national teacher training schemes are not swept aside for the sake of landing political points.
