Mount Kelly, a world-class boarding school, has partnered with one of the leading international educational consultants, EduReach, to launch Mount Kelly International, the first stand-alone prep school in Hong Kong offering the Common Entrance curriculum. Opening in September 2017, Mount Kelly International Prep will be the second British independent school in Hong Kong, after Harrow.
The initiative has been led by Head Master Mark Semmence, with the full support of the Governing Body and its Chairman Rear Admiral Chris Snow, and by EduReach’s Chief Executive, Rick Johnson. They describe the outcome of the deal as “a unique opportunity to share the Mount Kelly DNA, its values and culture in one of the world’s fastest growing educational markets.” In addition to having two members of the Mount Kelly team on the new five-strong Board, Mount Kelly will now start recruiting for a founding Head.
“We have always been an internationally-minded school, and we believe firmly in the benefits of an international education, especially when considering the increasingly globalised nature of the world within which we all live and work. Mount Kelly International will be unique in the Hong Kong market place and its success will support our bursaries programme as well as help deliver our future capital projects. There will also be exciting opportunities for both our staff and pupils – regular communications, exchanges and the chance to learn from each other’s professional practice” says Mark Semmence.
Semmence continues, “We are delighted to be working with EduReach. They have significant sector experience, having worked with a number of schools in setting up abroad. Their team, includes John Witheridge, formerly Headmaster of Charterhouse, and Guy Waller, formerly Headmaster of Cranleigh, and I do not think we could have made a better partnership.”
The design and build of the new school is being delivered by Atkins Consulting, one of the leading civil engineering consultants in the world, and the £50m project is being fully financed by a prominent Hong Kong family office. The EduReach team will be responsible for the setup and day-to-day running of Mount Kelly International.
“Mount Kelly’s international reputation is growing very fast.” says Rick Johnson. “We know we have found the perfect partner to deliver the very best British prep school in this large and exciting market place.”

About Mount Kelly
Mount Kelly is a co-educational, day and boarding school for girls and boys aged 3-18 with over 570 pupils. The School can trace its roots back to late 1870s following a bequest from Admiral Benedictus Marwood Kelly, one of the most successful Admirals in British Naval history, to build a school for the 'sons of naval officers and other gentlemen'. In recognition of the generosity of this bequest William the 8th Duke of Bedford gifted land from his Tavistock estate for its development. The School opened in October 1877.
A new 50m Olympic swimming pool will open in August 2016, and this will add to the already excellent international reputation of the Mount Kelly swim programme. Led by former Olympian, Robin Brew, the alumni have won a total of 29 Olympic and Commonwealth medals over the last 30 years. Among its world renowned former pupils are Sharron Davies and two times Commonwealth Games Silver Medallist Cameron Brodie.
