Private schools better for social mobility, says leading headmaster

In an article in the Evening Standard (30/09/13), Anna Davis writes: "Private schools do more to help social mobility than some state schools, the head of a private school group that represents Eton and Harrow said today."

She reports that: "Tim Hands, chair of the Headmasters’ and Headmistresses’ Conference, said the accusation that independent schools restrict social mobility is “perverse” yet there is a feeling that spending money on private education is not 'moral'."

The report followed Tim Hands' opening address at the 2013 HMC annual conference.
