On target for a successful year for Yarm School students

Northern Echo, 19.01.16, a record number of pupils at Yarm School have received offers to study at Oxford and Cambridge this year. HMC member David Dunn, headmaster of the leading independent school is quoted.

Twelve students should be going to study a wide variety of subjects at the two universities once they have finished their A-levels at Yarm.

They plan to be embarking on degree courses in subjects including medicine, geography, history, natural sciences, economics, German, chemistry and maths.

Students Christopher Baczkowski, Olivia Brightling, Becky Donaldson, Rebecca Fry, Ahmed Mostafa, Niamh Reid and Dominic Vasey will be going to Cambridge.

Charles Guthrie, Isis Kearney, Charlotte Kendrick, Nikhil Krishna and Daniel Spivey will be taking up places at Oxford.

Yarm headmaster David Dunn said: “We’re absolutely thrilled for our 12 students who have worked so hard to secure an offer from either Oxford or Cambridge.

“Every year, competition for places at the top universities gets tougher. They must have fantastic GCSE and AS grades, high predicted grades and do will in aptitude tests and their interview. It’s fantastic to have record numbers of our soon-to-be school leavers going on to continue their studies at Oxbridge.

“We’re now concentrating on supporting their own hard work to ensure they get the A-level results they need to take up their places.”
