Top boys’ school to take girls for first time in 500 years

The Telegraph, 07/04/2014: Nottingham High School - alma mater of D. H. Lawrence and an HMC school - becomes the latest in a long line of boys' schools to accept girls following warnings that single-sex education may be dying out. Nottingham High School confirmed that it will admit girls from September 2015 in an attempt to reflect “our 21st century society”.

The day school, which was founded in 1513, will initially take girls into the reception and sixth-form before expanding numbers in coming years. Headmaster Kevin Fear commented: " “It is important that the school reflects our 21st century society. The modern workplace sees men and women working alongside each other on equal terms and all universities are co-educational."
