Developing your brand overseas – knowing the opportunities, understanding the challenges

Antony Clark - Malvern College

AC photoAntony Clark had his formative years in South Africa and was educated at St Andrew's CollegeGrahamstown, and at Rhodes University, before moving on to Cambridge University on a Douglas Smith Scholarship.

He initially taught at Westerford High School, in Cape Town, a large co-educational state school, before working briefly in investment management. He was then appointed Headmaster of St Joseph's Marist College, Cape Town, in 1992 and subsequently of his own old school, St Andrew's College, in 1994. In 2002 he moved as Head to Gresham's School in Norfolk and then to Malvern College in September 2008. Over the last ten years, he has overseen the investment of £27m in the infrastructure of Malvern College as well as the creation of International Schools in Qingdao, Chengdu, Cairo and Hong Kong.

The talk will focus on some of the issues which Heads may wish to consider when the opportunity to set up an international school bearing the brand of a British school comes about. There will be an assessment of the high and low points of the journey on which Malvern has been over the last seven years.
