The Inspiration Trust – transforming schools

Dame Rachel de Souza - The Inspiration Trust

Dame Rachel de Souza, chief executive of the Inspiration Trust.

Dame Rachel de Souza is chief executive of the Inspiration Trust, and is well known across Britain for her work in transforming education - including turning around two failing schools to reach a top Outstanding rating. She regularly hosts events and attends conferences advising on school improvement, developing multi-academy trusts, and setting up of free schools. She is a strong advocate of a knowledge rich curriculum, high standards of behaviour, and the power of quality cultural and sporting experiences.

The Norwich-based Inspiration Trust is family of 14 schools from nursery through to sixth form, and has twice been ranked as the top comprehensive schools group for pupil progress to GCSE. Its Hethersett Academy in Norfolk and East Point Academy in Suffolk have both gone from special measures to having the highest Progress 8 scores in their respective counties. The Sir Isaac Newton Sixth Form was launched as a free school and the country's first maths and science specialist sixth form in 2013, and has just been ranked Outstanding by Ofsted.

The Trust recently launched its teaching school alliance with a developing programme of teacher CPD that has drawn attendees from across the country and will see the first intake start its new initial teacher training programme in September 2018.

Dame Rachel is the founder of the Parents and Teachers for Excellence campaign group, and serves on the Education Honours Committee.  She is a trustee of Shakespeare's Globe theatre in London.
