Founded in 1525 Sedbergh has an impressive history, excellent facilities and a host of famous alumni. Like all top schools our pupils expect to move on to the leading Universities and our Music, Sport and Drama is among the best in the country. However, what makes Sedbergh School outstanding is our ability to prepare exceptional young people for Life.
Our unique features - from our spectacular location to high level of pastoral care, and our commitment to nurturing individual talents and aspirations - help all our pupils to become spirited, well-rounded young adults with the confidence to make the most of Life.
Sedberghians are sociable, caring, well-mannered, self-confident, energetic and healthy. They are keen to make the most of personal opportunities yet aware of the wider world and their responsibility towards it; they delight in learning yet have independent minds; they can debate and communicate, and work independently or in a team. They also develop other valuable qualities such as a strong work ethic, loyalty and integrity.
The thriving Senior School has nearly 520 pupils, with 190 girls and 330 boys, ranging in age from 13 to 18 years, who are supported by 80 qualified and committed teaching staff, coaches and pastoral care specialists. Casterton, Sedbergh Preparatory School, including The Mulberry Bush Nursery, has now relocated to Casterton, just over 15 minutes drive away from Sedbergh, and has 200 pupils aged 4 to 13.
