Chris King - Chair of HMC and Headmaster and Chief Executive, Leicester Grammar School
Christopher King has been Headmaster and Chief Executive of Leicester Grammar School Trust since September 2001. He was educated at Queen Elizabeth's Hospital followed by Hatfield College, Durham University where he obtained Bachelor and Masters degrees. As Headmaster of Leicester Grammar School Trust he had responsibility for leading the development of the plans for the relocation of the Trust to a new greenfield site. Building commenced in January 2007 and was completed for September 2008. The scheme had a total cost of £33 million and he shaped the proposal, drove the plans through a Public Inquiry and identified the funders and the contractors who built the scheme. The new school building was opened by Her Majesty, The Queen.
Previous roles include Deputy Head at Kimbolton School, Head of Geography Departments, a senior boarding Housemaster in charge of rugby and D.of E. undertaking expeditions to various parts of the globe. A former independent schools representative at the then National College for School Leadership (NCSL), former Director of Central ISCis, former member of the Leicester Cathedral Council and former East Midlands ‘Business Champion’ when he helped to create a new school for autistic children. He is also an ISI (Independent Schools Inspectorate) inspector. He was Chair of the HMC Professional Development Committee from 2009 to 2014 and a HMC full board member since 2006. He is Chair of HMC in 2017-18.
