HMC Associate membership is open to heads of fully state-funded schools across the UK and offers a meaningful connection to HMC. It recognises the inspiring work already taking place between state and independent schools and strengthens the shared commitment to delivering excellent education for all young people.
While not full members of HMC, Associates join a community of senior leaders across sectors who are passionate about learning from each other, building professional relationships, and working together to create new opportunities for students and staff.
Who Can Become an HMC Associate?
We warmly welcome nominations for:
- Heads of primary and secondary schools and colleges that are fully state-funded
- Senior leaders within multi-academy trusts (MATs) or state school groups
HMC Associates are:
- Strong practitioners with a collaborative outlook
- Committed to cross-sector partnership and to improving educational outcomes for all children
How to Become an HMC Associate
HMC Associates are nominated by existing HMC members.
The process is simple:
- A member of HMC submits a nomination form outlining their reasons for proposing the Associate and confirming a conversation has taken place with the nominee.
- Any potential conflicts of interest are declared as part of the process.
- Nominations are considered by the HMC Membership Committee and ratified by the HMC Board.
Tenure
Associate status is linked to the individual’s tenure as head at their current school. If a head moves on, a new nomination would be needed for the incoming head to join as an Associate.
