The British School of Barcelona
|Head's Name:||Jonathan Locke|
Since its foundation in 1958, The British School of Barcelona has been a leading independent school characterised by the pursuit of academic excellence and outstanding care for all children and young people.
The British School of Barcelona is an inclusive school with over 1,500 pupils aged 3-18. We are regularly inspected on the quality of our work by UK inspectors and inspection teams from the BSO (British Schools Overseas) inspection service, CIS (Council of International Schools), Examination boards and teams from Cognita, our parent company. The British School of Barcelona is ranked as one of the 20 best international schools in Spain. In March 2016, we were judged to be an outstanding school overall, one of the very best in Europe.
Ensuring the quality of teaching and learning is at the heart of what we do, and this means making it possible for all children to realise their potential, including those with special needs as well as exceptionally able students who must be stretched and challenged. At The British School of Barcelona we want to help educate and develop leaders: young, well-educated, enthusiastic, happy leaders of today, and wise, confident, well-informed, content leaders of tomorrow. To achieve this, all the members of the school community commit to a set of values and standards, which underpin everything we do in the school.
The British School of Barcelona is a dynamic, internationally-minded school community of nearly 50 nationalities. While we follow the English National Curriculum as an educational establishment fully accredited by the British Government, we also meet the requirements of the Spanish curriculum for foreign schools in Spain, which involves the study of Spanish and Catalan language and culture. We are one of the few schools worldwide to offer Advanced Levels (A Levels) in parallel with the International Bacalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP) alongside a core personal development programme.
Our school is an authorised centre for Cambridge International, EDEXCEL and IB examinations. We emphasise effective learning and, year after year, our students obtain excellent exam results which are well above national and international averages. The vast majority of our students successfully gain entry into their first-choice university in the UK, Spain and around the world.
In addition to academic learning, another pillar of our school is the Enrichment Programme, involving assemblies, tutorials, societies, sport, music, drama, art, languages, trips and exchanges, leadership schemes and community work. These co-curricular activities clearly enrich a young person’s all-round experience and contribute to the attainment of a happier, more fulfilling life.
The British School of Barcelona has three campuses:
- BSB Sitges: From Nursery to Year 6 (3-11 years old)
- BSB Castelldefels: From Nursery to Year 11 (3-16 years old)
- BSB Nexus (Pre-University Education): Years 12 and 13 (16-18 years old)
The British School of Barcelona is part of Cognita, a global leader in independent education founded in the United Kingdom in 2004. The Cognita family now includes over 71 schools worldwide, which are committed to enriching the lives of children to achieve beyond expectation.
