St Leonards is a coeducational, boarding and day school for pupils aged 5-18 in the heart of the seaside, university town of St Andrews. Boarding is offered from age 10. St Leonards is an all-through International Baccalaureate (IB) school, and is the only school in the UK to actively offer all four IB programmes. The youngest pupils follow the Primary Years Programme (PYP), followed by the Middle Years Programme (MYP) and GCSEs. For our Sixth Form students, there are two pathways: pupils follow either the Career-related Programme (CP) or the Diploma Programme (DP).
At St Leonards, the Senior section encompasses pupils from Year 7 (P7) to Year 13 (S6), and we strongly believe that these years are not just about exam preparation. As a school, we want the children to enjoy learning for its own sake, and to be spurred on by their own good results. Important organisational skills are developed as the pupils get used to being taught by separate subject specialists in different classrooms. We strongly believe in developing the potential of each individual, but we also believe in hard work and high standards, and in stretching the most able pupils to excel.
Alongside their academic goals, our pupils are encouraged to develop their existing interests, pursue new ones, and use their time to the full. We offer exceptional opportunities in sport, music, art, and drama, and our pupils also benefit from interacting with the local community and the University of St Andrews. Our exciting calendar of trips and activities ensure that our pupils leave St Leonards equipped with the skills and interests required to succeed in today’s ever-changing world.
